Wellness Chiropractic Care vs Active Injury Care: What’s the Difference?

Some visits are built around calming a current problem. Other visits are built around maintaining progress. This guide explains the difference so patients in Smithfield, Logan, and Cache Valley can book the right type of chiropractic visit at Frankos Chiropractic.

Start by asking: are we treating a problem, or maintaining progress?

Wellness chiropractic care versus active injury care at Frankos Chiropractic in Smithfield Utah

Wellness care and active injury care can both involve chiropractic visits, but they should not be treated like the same appointment. A patient with a new flare-up, leg symptoms, neck pain after a crash, or worsening headaches needs a different starting point than someone who feels good and wants a routine maintenance adjustment.

Frankos Chiropractic is located at 115 N Main St in Smithfield, Utah, serving patients from Logan, North Logan, Hyde Park, Richmond, Lewiston, Providence, Hyrum, Nibley, Wellsville, Cache Valley, and nearby Southeast Idaho.

The simple difference

Active injury care is problem-focused. Wellness care is maintenance-focused.

The difference is not whether the visit is “better.” The difference is the goal. Active care starts with a current complaint that needs evaluation. Wellness care is for appropriate patients who are no longer in active pain care and want routine maintenance visits.

Active injury care

This is the better starting point when something hurts, symptoms are new, symptoms are changing, or daily life is limited.

  • New back pain, neck pain, headaches, or sciatica-like symptoms.
  • Pain after lifting, yard work, sports, a fall, or an auto accident.
  • Numbness, tingling, weakness, radiating pain, or worsening symptoms.
  • Care decisions based on history, exam findings, safety, and goals.

Wellness chiropractic care

This is for patients who are doing well enough for routine maintenance-style visits and are not coming in for a new injury or active pain problem.

  • Routine adjustment-focused maintenance visits.
  • Patients who respond well to regular care.
  • Ongoing movement support for active families, students, and busy adults.
  • A simpler visit type when active pain care is no longer the main focus.

Active pain and injury visits

Active care starts with an exam, not a quick maintenance adjustment.

If a patient is in pain, the doctor needs to know what changed. A new flare-up is not automatically the same as last month’s wellness visit. Active care may involve chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, traction, flexion distraction, exercise guidance, referral, imaging discussion, or a different visit type based on what is found.

1

History

How it started, how long it has been there, what makes it worse, what helps, and what you need to get back to.

2

Exam

Movement, joint restriction, muscle guarding, nerve tension, posture, loading, and safety screening.

3

Plan

The plan may include adjustments, soft tissue, traction, shockwave, home care, referral, or co-management when appropriate.

Examples that should usually be active care, not wellness care.

  • A new low back flare-up after lifting, yard work, or sitting too long.
  • Sciatica-like symptoms into the glute, leg, calf, or foot.
  • Neck pain with headaches, dizziness, numbness, or symptoms after impact.
  • Shoulder, rib, hip, SI, or sports pain that is limiting normal activity.
  • Pain after an auto accident, fall, or new injury.

Maintenance-style visits

Wellness care is for maintaining progress when active pain is no longer the main focus.

Frankos Chiropractic wellness memberships are built for appropriate patients who want routine maintenance visits at an affordable monthly price. They are not designed to replace active injury care, auto accident care, or treatment for a new pain problem.

Adult plan

$79/month

Designed for adult patients who are appropriate for routine maintenance-style chiropractic visits.

Youth plan

$59/month

Designed for youth patients under 18 who are appropriate for routine maintenance-style care.

Visit structure

4 visits/month

Visits are monthly maintenance visits and do not roll over if they are not used.

Important: wellness membership visits are not active pain care.

Soft tissue therapy, cupping, scraping, spinal decompression/traction, shockwave therapy, new injury evaluation, and active pain treatment plans may require a different visit type or separate billing.

How to choose the right visit

Choose the appointment based on what you are dealing with today.

Booking the right visit helps the office schedule the right amount of time, the right provider, and the right starting point. If you are unsure, call the office and ask.

Book active care if:
You have pain, a new injury, radiating symptoms, worsening symptoms, or a specific problem you want evaluated.
Book wellness care if:
You are doing well, no new complaint needs evaluation, and you are coming in for routine maintenance.
Call first if:
You were in an auto accident, have claim details, need Dr. Valeri, or are not sure which provider or visit type fits.
Choose extra services carefully:
Shockwave, traction, cupping, scraping, and soft tissue work should match the case, not be assumed on every visit.

When wellness care may make sense.

Wellness visits can be a good fit for patients who feel better with regular care, understand their patterns, and want to maintain mobility through work, parenting, training, school, or active Cache Valley life.

When active care is safer.

Active care is safer when symptoms need a fresh look. That includes new pain, returning pain that feels different, pain after trauma, or symptoms that affect strength, sensation, sleep, work, or normal activity.

Do not treat red flags like wellness

Some symptoms need urgent medical attention or a different starting point.

Most aches and flare-ups are not emergencies, but red flags should not be handled as a routine adjustment visit. Get urgent care or call a healthcare professional if symptoms suggest a serious problem.

Get checked urgently if symptoms include:

  • Loss of bladder or bowel control, saddle numbness, or new trouble urinating.
  • Progressive weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg or arm.
  • Severe pain after trauma, fall, or auto accident.
  • Fever, unexplained weight loss, cancer history, infection concern, or pain that is constant and severe at night.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, stroke-like symptoms, or symptoms that do not feel musculoskeletal.

FAQ

Questions patients ask before choosing wellness or active care.

These answers are educational. The right visit depends on your symptoms, history, exam findings, goals, and whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

Are wellness visits for pain?

No. Wellness membership visits are maintenance visits after active pain care is no longer the main focus. New or worsening pain usually needs a different visit type.

Can I use a wellness visit for a new injury?

Usually no. A new injury needs evaluation, documentation, and the right amount of time. Active injury care is the better starting point.

What if I choose the wrong visit?

Call the office. Frankos Chiropractic can help you correct the visit type so you get the right provider and appointment length.

Do wellness visits include soft tissue or decompression?

Not automatically. Soft tissue, cupping, scraping, decompression, traction, and shockwave may be billed separately or require a different visit type.

How many wellness visits are included?

Frankos Chiropractic wellness memberships include 4 visits per month. Visits do not roll over.

Where is Frankos Chiropractic located?
